CALL FOR PAPERS
The 6th PRUAC international conference will cover a variety of topics in underwater acoustics. Two special themes will be highlighted:
(1) Underwater Noise Impacts on Marine Life and Acoustic
Monitoring of Marine Life
(2) Underwater Acoustic Studies in Littoral Waters
The first PRUAC conference was held in Canada in 2007. After more than a decade, the upcoming 6th PRUAC 2018 will be organized by the National Taiwan University and will be held in the Pacific Ocean-facing city of Hualien, along the eastern coast of Taiwan. Home of the Taroko Gorge National Park, Hualien is known for its one-of-a-kind world-class scenery.
Over the past two decades, the focus of underwater acoustics research has shifted from pelagic “blue waters” to littoral waters; for instance, there is now growing research interest in harbor acoustics. And, recently there is a gradual shift back to blue waters and polar regions. This shift is not only motivated by Naval interests, but is also driven by global change. The conference will be a forum for researchers in acoustics, wave propagation and other related areas to discuss state-of-the-art of the role the acoustics plays in fishing management, and, harbor surveillance. The theme also returns to the original theme of the first PRUAC conference: impacts of noise in marine environment. Applications of Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) and Active Acoustics Detection in underwater acoustic detection and monitoring will be featured.
